Ian Buruma, Henry R. Luce Professor of Human Rights, Bard College, presents a talk about life in Berlin during World War II and how the Nazi regime tried to keep up the pretense that life was normal. The theme is one that will resonate in our own time: how to remain decent in an indecent society. Why did some people refuse to look away from the gross injustices, and even resist while others (the majority) chose to keep their heads down?
Co-sponsored by the Departments of History, World Languages and Cultures, and Political Science.
