All employees should review their beneficiary designation for unpaid compensation in the event of death. A beneficiary of unpaid compensation is a person or entity designated to receive an employee's final paycheck or other compensation owed in the event of the employee’s passing. In this case, unpaid compensation refers to any earnings that may be owed at that time. This applies to all employees.

Naming a beneficiary helps ensure any remaining payments are distributed according to your wishes. You can choose an individual, multiple individuals, or a trust to receive these funds. Funds with no designated beneficiary will go to the estate or be handled through probate.

For those who have not yet identified a beneficiary, there is a Change Benefits enrollment event in Workday that serves as a reminder to take a few minutes to do so.

Completing or updating your designation allows you to:

  • Identify the correct beneficiary/beneficiaries
  • Provide additional details that can help in the processing of beneficiary claims
  • Ensure your information reflects your current circumstances

If you have already designated a beneficiary through previous channels, please note that your existing designation remains valid. However, this is a great opportunity to review and update beneficiary information.

Keeping beneficiary information up to date helps reduce delays and confusion. Even if nothing has changed, reviewing your information periodically is a good practice. We encourage everyone to review their beneficiary designation and make updates as appropriate.
