The Governor has issued Executive Order 2026-002 extending the suspension of minimum qualifications for candidates for employment and auto-progression requirements for classified job classifications graded at level 25 or below through Dec. 31, 2026.

The hiring flexibility and review process for classified positions at grade 25 or below will remain in effect. The following language will be included on new classified job postings for positions at grade 25 or below:

  • PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2026-001, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2026. Please refer to the link for more information: Executive Order 2026-002.

To ensure fairness and equity in the recruitment process, the minimum education and experience qualifications may continue to serve as a baseline to identify the best-qualified applicants.

In cases where there are no applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, hiring managers may consider applicants with some experience, comparable experience, and/or transferable skills using the following guidelines:

  • Establish what years of experience, comparable experience, and/or transferable skills are acceptable for the position prior to evaluating applications.
  • Evaluate each applicant using the same criteria identified above.
  • Request the Classified Application Evaluation Form by emailing unlvhrrecruitment@unlv.edu. Complete the form and submit it to your Talent Acquisition Coordinator, HR Liaison, or HR Business Partner when requesting interviews.
  • This form only needs to be completed when considering applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for classified recruitments at grade 25 or below.

Comparable experience refers to experience that may not be directly related to the position but shares similar skills, competencies, or characteristics that could transfer to the role.

Transferable skills include skills such as problem-solving, technology proficiency, record keeping, and organizational ability.

The executive order also continues the suspension of minimum qualifications associated with auto-progression within classification series at grade 25 or below. Appointing authorities may continue to determine whether an employee meets the criteria for progression based on performance and readiness.

We will continue to monitor guidance from the state and will share updates as they become available. Please contact your talent acquisition coordinator or HR Business Partner if you have questions.
