Dear University Community,
We are pleased to report that a suspect in the sexual assault of a UNLV student that occurred in an apartment on campus Tuesday was arrested late Wednesday night. The suspect, who remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on multiple charges, is not affiliated with the university.
We want to recognize and thank the entire University Police Department team, who worked with tireless determination while investigating this incident. We’re also grateful to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for their strong partnership and collaboration on this case.
These events are difficult to comprehend and can affect our sense of security. The safety and well-being of the university community is our highest priority, and UPD will continue to have a highly visible presence on our campuses.
We encourage all members of the university community to download and enable notifications on the RebelSAFE app and visit UPD Southern Command for additional preparedness resources, including personal safety tips. Additionally, the university has a number of available mental health and counseling resources, and the UNLV Care Center offers confidential support and resources for members of the university community impacted by sexual violence.
As we enter the final weeks of the spring semester, let’s continue to look out for one another – offering support and encouragement, connecting those in need with resources, and providing the welcoming, caring presence that defines UNLV.
Sincerely,
Chris Heavey
