Dear Campus Community,

Our offices are pleased to announce a revamped professional development/leadership training series that is open to all UNLV employees by application. We encourage faculty and staff interested in advancing their professional and leadership skills to explore this structured set of training programs. The programs are sequentially aligned, ensuring that participants progressively deepen their knowledge and skills as they advance through each stage.

  • The first of the series is the Management Training Academy (MTA). This eight-week program is designed to equip current or aspiring managers with foundational knowledge and skills in communication, supervision, team coordination, performance assessment, and a variety of other relevant topics. Interested individuals should contact mta@unlv.edu with questions about upcoming MTA sessions.
  • Second in the series is the UNLV Leadership Experience (LE). This re-branded three-semester program builds upon the MTA’s core competencies through monthly seminars and workshops along with ongoing collaborations with a mentor, typically a senior administrator such as a dean or vice provost. LE participants will work closely with their mentors on a project in support of Top Tier 2.0 that is headed by their mentor. Completion of MTA is a prerequisite for application to the LE program. If you have any questions, please contact Janet Dufek or Brenda Thompson-El.
  • The pinnacle experience in this series is the President’s Fellows Program (PFP), which is designed for faculty who have demonstrated promise in institutional leadership but may have limited experience in higher-level administrative roles. Participants are paired with executive leaders including the president, executive vice president and provost, or a vice president. Completion of the UNLV Leadership Experience is required for application to this program. For additional information, please contact Fred Tredup or Tondra De.

A call for the 2024-2025 cohort of the UNLV Leadership Experience and the President’s Fellows Program will go out in early spring 2024. Applications will be due prior to spring break.

Engaging in professional development is not just about individual growth, but also about contributing more impactfully to the broader mission and success of our university.  We urge every member of the campus community to take advantage of the many opportunities that UNLV has to offer.
