The hands of children and adults point down at a book. The book is open to an illustrated text about a woman. Black and white pictures of pellets that resemble giant blood corpuscles float in the air beside her head. A child is holding a digital tablet above the book. The same illustration of the woman’s face is displayed on the tablet. A picture of a mosquito hovers over her hair.

UNLV NextGen Curators: Virtual Museum of Community, Identity & Creativity will be an immersive camp designed for high school students interested in art, technology, storytelling, and creative innovation. Hosted by the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art in collaboration with faculty from UNLV Fine Arts, Engineering, and Communication Studies, this program will introduce students to the exciting world of digital museum curation and exhibition design.

Through hands-on workshops and collaborative projects, students will learn how museums tell stories by creating their own virtual exhibitions that reflect personal identity, community experiences, and creative perspectives. Participants will gain experience in digital exhibition creation, basic coding and 3D/VR tools, visual arts curation, and public speaking, while working closely with UNLV faculty, graduate mentors, and peers.

The program culminates in a Virtual Museum Showcase, where students present their completed digital exhibitions to families, community members, and the UNLV community. This camp offers a unique opportunity to explore interdisciplinary college pathways, build digital literacy, strengthen communication communication skills, and experience college-level learning on UNLV’s campus.

UNLV NextGen Curators is open to any student who will be in grades 10–12 in the 2026–27 school year, as well as students who graduated from high school in 2026. Priced at $450, it will run on weekdays from May 26–June 5, 9a.m.–4p.m. Lunch is included in the cost of the camp.
