What was your favorite thing about campus life?
I appreciated being in an environment where cutting-edge research was happening. Being on a campus where this type of research was being conducted was exciting and has influenced my work in bridging research and practice in literacy instruction.
How has your career evolved over time?
My career has evolved from classroom teaching to leadership roles in literacy education and professional development. UNLV played an important role in shaping my foundation as an educator. Courses, like elementary social studies and literacy instruction, planted the seeds for my deep understanding of reading science. UNLV helped me appreciate the complexity of reading instruction and the importance of building students' background knowledge for comprehension.
Tell us about yourself!
Outside of work, my family and I love the outdoors. We are avid hikers and have a goal of climbing all 58 of Colorado’s “14ers” as a family. I also have a deep appreciation for the desert landscapes of Las Vegas, and I miss the unique hiking opportunities there.
