Classified employees and managers should review annual leave balances and plan for upcoming year-end deadlines. Annual leave limits vary based on bargaining unit status. Employees with excess leave should request annual leave before Oct. 15 to avoid forfeiture.
Annual Leave Limits
- 240 hours: Standard classified employee annual leave limit.
- 480 hours: Annual leave limit for classified employees in bargaining units A, C, E, F, G, H, and L, effective July 1, 2025.
Employees with excess annual leave must use it on or before Dec. 31 or the excess leave will be forfeited. Leave requested by Oct. 15 and denied by a supervisor is eligible for payout.
Managers can review employee balances using the Workday report “Classified End of Year Balance - HCM - CR (NSHE).”
Annual Leave Cash Out
Classified employees in bargaining units A, C, E, F, G, and H may cash out annual leave twice per year, during November and May.
Employees may cash out:
- Up to 40 hours per cash-out period, for a maximum of 80 hours annually.
- Annual leave only when at least 200 hours remain after the cash-out.
Future leave requests affect current leave totals and should be considered when determining cash-out eligibility.
