Barbara Roth, chair and professor of anthropology, received the Byron Cummings Award from the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society. Roth has made significant contributions to the knowledge of hunter-gatherer adaptations, the transition to agriculture, household social structures, and gender identities from the Mojave Desert of California and Nevada to the Mimbres Valley of New Mexico. The award is given for outstanding research and contributions to knowledge in anthropology, history, or a related field of study pertaining to the Southwestern U.S.
