COVID-19 Update (8/14/2020)

The UNLV Student Union is open on a limited basis from Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm.  We are closed on weekends and will be closed on Labor Day.  Hours will be adjusted and posted here to meet any future event or campus' needs.

  • A copy of the most recent building guidelines (7/24/2020) for re-opening can be found here: Return to Operations Plan
  • The facility is open primarily for UNLV students, staff, and faculty.  Guests are allowed into the building to do their immediate business and then must depart.  Guests and non-UNLV patrons are not allowed to loiter or linger in the building.
  • Entry from 8/17-8/21 is through a single door near Starbucks.  Individuals MUST swipe their Rebel Card to gain entry.  Beginning 8/24/2020, limited entrances will still be utilized but ID cards will not be checked.  Staff will be checking for mask/face covering use prior to entering the facility.
  • As of 8/17, SoHo Sushi Burrito, Panda Express, Starbucks and the POD convenience store will be open.  On 8/24, Jamba Juice and Subway will open for operations.
  • Face masks and social distancing is required within the facility for all students, staff, faculty, and guests. Furnishings are set to maintain social distancing and may not be moved.
    • UNLV Employees are required to wear masks while working in the facility.
  • Offices and departments may have limited services and hours. Check offices or their webpages for additional information.
    • Student-based offices such as CSUN, the Scarlet & Gray Free Press newspaper, and GPSA will provide their own notifications on how to reach their services and contact their staff.
  • The Student Union and Aramark custodial staff will do our best to frequently sanitize surfaces in the building.
  • As always, racism or xenophobia are not consistent with the values of the Student Union and will not be tolerated.  “Mask shaming” or other similar acts are not conducive to our values and will be followed up with.
  • The Information Desk is open for service, but the Game Room will be closed until further notice. The enclosed 227 and 228 student lounges will reopen in a limited capacity beginning 8/24/20 with social distancing in effect.
  • There are additional rules for safety in the facility - this includes limited elevator access, lines for food service, social distancing, etc.  Signs are posted and all guests for the Student Union are required to follow these rules.
  • Events are extremely limited.  At the time of this update, meetings of 50 or more are not allowed in-person and virtual meetings are still the preferred method.  For our meetings held in the facility, Student Union & Event Services’ staff will sanitize furnishings and equipment between meetings.  No gathering for meetings in hallways should take place.
    • It is the event sponsor’s responsibility for UNLV events to enforce COVID-19 safety protocols and social distancing.
  • "Phase 3" reopening will take place at a future date when UNLV and the state of Nevada indicates it is safe to do so.

We encourage everyone to follow CDC and governmental guidelines regarding safety and health. For more information about the UNLV response, please visit the main UNLV Coronavirus page.

Event services reservations and information is available online at or through our website.

Please be safe and let us know if you have any questions.
