Biography

Willie Johnson is a scholar who has a mental health background and is specializing in school counseling endeavors. He earned his B.S. in human services from University of Nevada Las Vegas; while maintaining a Magna cum Laude status. While pursuing an undergraduate degree, Willie was able to gain some valuable skills and knowledge, from working with the Juvenile justice center, and the College of Education Department; which allowed him to get a better insight about possible career choices. Upon graduating, Willie was accepted into the School Counseling M.Ed. program at University of Nevada Las Vegas. There he was able to immersive himself into the School Counseling field, which opened up a graduate assistant door. He then was able to explore his interest in teaching, through a graduate assistantship; teaching a human services course. Willie has a strong interest in creating and implementing programs for the African American community, but more specifically for people who identify under the LGBTQIA+ community. His research is based off of advocacy, uplifting, and culture; that creates and implements programs and safe spaces for k-12 youth that identify with the LGBTQIA+ community; which will foster a more engaged and positive environment.
