Susanna Newbury, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Art History, Theory & Criticism
Susanna Newbury is Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She completed her undergraduate degree at Oberlin College, and her Ph.D. at Yale University.
Her research and teaching interests focus on the social history of twentieth and twenty-first century art, histories of photography and architecture, urban studies, and economic geography. Dr. Newbury writes frequently on topics of contemporary art, and is a contributing editor of X-tra Contemporary Art Quarterly and a member of the editorial board of the contemporary art journal Apricota. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Nevada Humanities Council, a statewide organization that fosters cultural enrichment and connection for all Nevadans through grants and public programming.
Her book, Speculations: Art, Real Estate and Global Los Angeles, is forthcoming from University of Minnesota Press. A second book project, Photography beyond Index, is underway, as well as a study of risk and art in the experience economy.
