Stephanie Council has a multifaceted career as a conductor, singer, and educator. She is assistant professor of choral music and associate director of choral studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she conducts Argenta (SSAA), Amonía (TTBB), and University Chorale (SATB). She maintains a private conducting studio of graduates and undergraduates, and oversees the undergraduate choral conducting and vocal music education program.

Additionally, Council is the founder and artistic director of Desert Singers Las Vegas, a professional-level community women’s choir, and she has served as chorus master for the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Opera Las Vegas. She previously led the choral programs at Simpson College and Mount Holyoke College.

Council is active nationally as a conductor, singer, clinician, and adjudicator helping ensembles and conductors elevate their artistry and explore their creative potential. Recent engagements include honor choirs, university residencies, and international touring with the Texas Choral Directors Association Directors Chorus. Sought-after as a guest conductor, Council has conducted clinics and honor choirs in Oklahoma, Texas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa, Nevada, Michigan, Illinois, Louisiana, and various European cities, and she was a graduate finalist in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Conducting Competition. She sings professionally with Mirabai, San Antonio Chamber Choir, and Red Shift.

Council serves the choral profession in a variety of roles including as president-elect of Nevada ACDA, College & University Coordinator for Western Region ACDA, Faculty Advisor for the UNLV Chapter of ACDA, and National Board Member for the National Collegiate Choral Organization.

She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from Texas Tech University. She holds a Master of Music with distinction in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College and Bachelor of Music degrees in music education and vocal music performance from Oklahoma State University.
