Soon Cho, PhD, is a postdoctoral scholar researcher in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) Program under the department of psychiatry and behavioral health.

Dr. Cho’s research focuses on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies, such as metaverse counseling and conversational AI, into clinical training and mental healthcare delivery. She analyzes conversations between humans and AI to explore how these interactions facilitate emotional processing, relational understanding, and accessibility for individuals and families experiencing relational distress, trauma, and addiction.

Her current projects include examining emotion regulation during human–AI interactions using physiological measures and developing framework to identify and assess risks associated with AI use in mental health contexts. Her interdisciplinary collaborations span engineering, social work, and communication sciences.
