Biography

Dr. Sonaly Silva is a licensed psychologist at the UNLV Student Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) office. She is the Training Director and chair of the diversity committee at UNLV CAPS. Dr. Silva earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. She completed her APA Accredited pre-doctoral internship at Western Carolina University Counseling and Psychological Services, and Post Doctoral Fellowship at University of North Carolina Wilmington Counseling Center. Dr. Silva has a special interest in working with immigrants, children of immigrants, international students (acculturation issues), race-related stress, grief and loss issues, men's issues, LGBTQ+ issues, students with developmental disabilities, students with identity development concerns, however, has experience working with clients with a variety of mental health issues. She is a strong advocate for social justice and equity, and her approach to client concerns includes using a multicultural framework and catering to the individual student’s needs. Dr. Silva has enjoyed presenting at several national and international conferences, and has presented on topics related to diversity issues, global health and wellness, intimate partner violence, alternative sexualities, and immigration issues.
