Biography

Sara Hunt, PhD, associate professor at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and assistant dean of behavioral health sciences for the school, also serves as the director of the UNLV Mental and Behavioral Health Training Coalition.

She received her bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Iowa, followed by a masters degree in psychology from Utah State University, and a doctorate degree in psychology from Utah State University in 2009. She completed her internship at Bloorview Children's Rehabilitation Centre in Toronto, Canada, in 2009, and her post-doctoral residency at PeaceHealth Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon, in 2010.

Dr. Hunt's work is focused on improving the mental and behavioral health workforce shortage in Nevada with an emphasis on training students on an integrated approach to providing healthcare. She engages community stakeholders and policy makers on workforce development models and is a frequent presenter on the subject. Prior to starting her current position, Dr. Hunt worked in multi-disciplinary health care settings providing assessment and therapy to individuals with obesity, diabetes, and sleep disorders.

She has served as president for the Nevada Psychological Association (NPA). In 2019, she received NPA's James Mikawa Award for Outstanding Contribution to Psychology.
