Biography

Dr. Sammie Scales (he/him/his) serves in a LOA role as the Interim Assistant Director for Student Diversity Programs. Dr. Scales received his joint doctoral degree from San Diego State University (SDSU) and Claremont Graduate School in 2020 his focus was on Education with a specialization in Teaching and Culture, demonstrating his dedication to understanding the dynamics of education in diverse cultural contexts. His impact extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by his role as a lecturer at SDSU. Within the Education department, he imparted knowledge and wisdom in Cultural Studies and First Year Experience (FYE) classes. Dr. Scales’ approach to teaching goes beyond conventional methods; he views the classroom as a space for raising questions, exploring ideas, and cultivating intentional practices for individual, group, and community success. A champion of equity-minded education, Dr. Scales ensures that his spaces are inclusive and welcoming to students from various backgrounds and identities. Recognizing the importance of diversity, he prepares students for the rich experience of a vibrant and heterogeneous learning community. Throughout each semester, Dr. Scales actively fosters a welcoming culture, promoting understanding and collaboration among students.
