Biography
Dr. Richard Baynosa is the Chief and Program Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is an Associate Professor and Head of the Section of Breast Surgery at the Kerkorian School of Medicine as well. He also serves as Chief of Plastic Surgery and the Vice Chair of Surgery at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada as well as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at MountainView Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Baynosa is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Baynosa’s practice features comprehensive plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He specializes in advanced aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery including DIEP and perforator free flaps. He offers the full range of primary and secondary cosmetic breast surgery from breast augmentation with silicone and saline implants and mastopexy/breast lift to difficult revision breast surgery and breast shaping after massive weight loss.
He was the first surgeon to offer DIEP free flap breast reconstruction in the state of Nevada and has trained numerous residents to perform the technique. His team of plastic surgeons, including his previous trainees who now serve as partners, is the most experienced plastic surgery practice in Las Vegas offering microsurgical breast reconstruction with the patient’s own tissue. Our practice uses a two team approach to perform these delicate and technically demanding surgeries more efficiently and with better outcomes. Dr. Baynosa trained at the University Hospital of Ghent in Belgium with one of the originators of the DIEP flap technique and completed a fellowship with world-renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Phillip Blondeel.
Dr. Baynosa’s breast reconstruction practice covers the full spectrum of options available including the use of tissue expanders, direct to implant reconstruction, fat grafting, latissimus dorsi flap, and numerous other flap options. He is also at the forefront in the use of pre-pectoral techniques and is often sought after for national talks and cadaver courses to teach both pre-pectoral techniques with tissue expanders/implants as well as flap based reconstruction with DIEP flaps. These techniques provide the most comprehensive options for women seeking primary and/or revision breast reconstruction. His practice specializes in patients who have previously failed breast reconstructions due to radiation injury and/or infection.
Dr. Baynosa serves on numerous national and regional committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and is the current president of the Mountain West Society of Plastic Surgeons (MWSPS). He is the recipient of several awards and grants for basic science research in plastic surgery, as well as exemplary service and clinical excellence. He has been featured in numerous media outlets including Fox5, Las Vegas Sun and Las Vegas Review Journal and has been named a Reader’s Choice Top 100 Doctor in My Vegas magazine for the last several years.
