Nekesta Shelton
Special Assistant to the Vice President
Biography
Nekesta Shelton serves as the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Government and Community Engagement at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. With more than two decades of experience in higher education, workforce development, community engagement, and program administration, she is dedicated to building meaningful partnerships that strengthen communities and expand opportunities for individuals and families.
Nekesta began her professional career supporting human resource operations before joining UNLV, where she spent more than 14 years serving in various student support and outreach roles. Her experience includes working with college access initiatives, student advising, workforce development programs, and community-based organizations focused on helping individuals overcome barriers to employment and self-sufficiency.
Prior to returning to UNLV, Nekesta worked extensively in workforce development and employment services, assisting individuals experiencing homelessness and other life challenges in securing employment, accessing training opportunities, and achieving long-term stability. Her passion for service, relationship building, and community impact has been the foundation of her career.
In her current role, Nekesta supports strategic initiatives, community partnerships, and government relations efforts that advance the university's mission and strengthen connections between UNLV and the communities it serves.
