Monica Moreno was born and raised in Santa Ana, CA, and moved to Las Vegas with her family in 2007. Shortly after moving to Las Vegas, she joined UNLV’s College of Education, where she worked as the student advising center’s office manager. Monica’s passion for helping others led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in human services.

As a first-generation Latina college student, she was inspired to become an academic advisor, seeing it as a way to pay forward the guidance and support she received as she navigated her own college journey. 

Monica began her career as an academic advisor in September 2011 and has since held various leadership roles, including assistant director for the Education Student Services Center (ESSC).

She earned her M.Ed. in higher education and remains committed to serving the university and greater Nevada community with compassion and dedication. Currently, Monica serves as the associate director of advising at ESSC, where she supports students and advisors alike through mentorship, program development, and student success initiatives.

In her spare time, Monica thrives on being a busy body and enjoys watching her teenage son play basketball and doing arts and crafts with her daughter. She also loves all things related to home décor and interior design.
