Biography

Mary Hausch was a journalism professor at UNLV for 25 years, specializing in media ethics and reporting courses. She was honored in 2017 with the prestigious Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents Distinguished Nevadan Award. In 2016 she was honored with emeritus membership in the UNLV Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She also was honored in 2016 by the national Society of Professional Journalists as a distinguished member. She is a lifetime member of SPJ. Prior to joining the UNLV faculty she worked at the Las Vegas Review-Journal for 19 years, including a decade as managing editor. Ms. Hausch served on the Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission for 20 years. She is on the State Board for the Education and Counseling of Displaced Homemakers and the Board of Help of Southern Nevada. Awards she received at UNLV include the Rita Deanin Abbey Teacher of the Year award in the College of Liberal Arts, Greenspun College Outstanding Teacher Award and Community Service Award, UNLV Alumni Outstanding Faculty member award for the Greenspun College, and CSUN Student Government Outstanding Teacher Award.
