Maria came to UNLV in 2004 to join the UNLV Rebels Volleyball team. During her four years, she performed outstandingly both on the court and in the classroom. She graduated with Bachelors of A in Psychology with two minors, in Marriage and Family Therapy and in Human Services. She continued her professional career as a volleyball player in Europe. In 2016, she was offered to a Graduate Assistantship as an Academic Advisor working for the Student-Athlete Academic Services. During her 3 years as Graduate Assistant Academic Advisor, Maria helped her teams gradually improve their academic performance and in Fall 2016 we reached our goal of having a team GPA over 3.0. Maria graduated with a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Maria has always been a true Rebel at heart seeking various opportunities to get involved with the University. While pursuing her Masters and working as a Graduate Assistant Academic Advisor, she also obtained a Mentorship Certificate and a Teaching Certificate offered through the UNLV Graduate College. In addition, she also served as a Graduate Ambassador representing the UNLV Graduate College at various on-campus events. Furthermore, she completed the Post-Master’s Career Pathways Program offered in collaboration by the UNLV Graduate college and the Career Services. Her selfless dedication did not go unnoticed and she was awarded the UNLV Graduate College Medallion. The Academic Success Center also recognized her tireless efforts and elected her for the 2019 Outstanding Graduate Student Employee.
Today Maria has joined the team of professional at the Division of Health Sciences Advising Center as a First-Year Academic Advisor, working mainly with the first-year students.
