Why did you choose the obstetrics and gynecology residency program at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV?
There were two distinct moments during my sub-internship that solidified my decision to rank UNLV OB-GYN as my top choice. The first occurred during weekly didactics, where I observed upper-level residents participating in a mock board exam. In front of everyone, they were subjected to rapid-fire, case-based questioning by the attendings. The three residents I watched absolutely excelled with every prompt. As an applicant, it was incredibly reassuring to witness the strength of UNLV’s education and to see firsthand how well the training prepares their residents. The second moment came when I was given a tour of the resident workroom on labor and delivery. Rather than seeing shelves lined solely with the famous Williams textbooks, I noticed a mix of murder mysteries, romance novels, and other works of fiction. It felt like an unintentional yet powerful reflection of the program’s culture — one where intellectual rigor and personal well-being are not mutually exclusive, but can genuinely coexist.

What are your interests within obstetrics and gynecology?
OB-GYN is one of the best fields to go into because there are so many different avenues to take within the specialty! While I love being in the operating room, I also really enjoy my clinic time, especially when working with high-risk obstetric patients.

What is your favorite thing to do in Las Vegas?
Anything I get to do with my co-residents! I also enjoy hiking with my husband and dog around Mt. Charleston and exploring new food spots!

What is one fun fact about you?
I flew into the world’s most dangerous airport (Lukla Airport) while on a two-week trekking trip around the Khumbu region of Nepal. The runway is only 527 meters long (the average commercial runway is 2400-4000 meters long) and it ends abruptly with a 600 meter drop off into the rocky valley below.

What is one piece of advice you would give to candidates interested in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program?
Seek out and embrace discomfort! I listened to a TEDx Talk awhile back that was hosted by a gentleman named Bill Eckstrom. The talk was titled, “Why Comfort Will Ruin Your Life,” (I HIGHLY recommend listening to it), but he uses an analogy about how we are all goldfish, and our growth is dictated by our environment. We all know goldfish grow exponentially when taken out of their fishbowls and placed into a pond. So, my advice to you is to seek out those ponds, even if it might be a little intimidating, because it’s the only way you’ll grow. Apply to the programs that will challenge you both academically and personally. Don’t choose the fishbowl because it feels more comfortable – you’re only limiting yourself!
