Lung-Chang Chien, DrPH
Associate Professor
Biography
Dr. Lung-Chang “JoJo” Chien is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. His early research focused on spatiotemporal modeling in environmental health and the social determinants of health, including influential studies on the health impacts of air pollution, the effects of climate change on the Zika virus and COVID-19, and health disparities among marginalized populations. More recently, his work has advanced variable dimension reduction methods to generate mixture indices to address complex public health issues, such as gun violence, minority stress, and COVID-19 vulnerability and vaccination barriers. He applies innovative statistical approaches to inform solutions to pressing population health challenges.
Dr. Chien maintains broad multidisciplinary collaborations spanning global health, occupational health, physical therapy, nutrition, and nursing. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications in the past two decades, with research supported by major funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Defense. Dr. Chien has contributed to diverse projects addressing COVID-19 geospatial disparities, childhood lead poisoning prevention, and motor function rehabilitation in individuals with lower limb amputations.
