Biography

Katie Kamachi, Ph.D. is the Online Faculty & Student Success Manager in the Office of Online Education. She comes to UNLV with over 10 years of experience in Higher Education and has been in a classroom or on a campus for over 20 years. Her passion and focus is student success in and out of the classroom. She first found her drive for student-centered, faculty-led partnerships while being an undergraduate athletic training intern and again when starting her career in higher education as an academic advisor. In previous roles within Higher Education, Dr. Kamachi has been a visiting faculty member in the Udvar-Hazy College of Business, overseen culture and retention building programs and initiatives, directed first year programs including orientation, student success, and family programs, and created curriculum and instruction related to First Year Experience, Organizational Behavior, and Career Readiness. Dr. Kamachi is actively researching within the field of Management & Organizational Behavior, the field of Competitive Athletics, Leadership, & Success, and the field of Educational Access, Retention, & Equity. Her love of the game has kept her “on the playing field” while she supports initiatives and causes focused on underrepresented populations, competitive athletics, access & equity, and entrepreneurship. As a first generation student and woman of color, she understands the value of actively seeking mentors, being a mentor, and being seen on campus and in the community. In her free time she tries to keep up with her three daughters, friends, family, workouts, and her teams. She loves to travel, visit new sport venues, and experience life through an ethnographic lens.
