Biography

Kathleen Callahan, Ph.D. is the German language coordinator, supervising 100- and 200-level courses. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in German literature from the University of Virginia in 1980 and 1984, and her B.A. from the University of Miami in 1978. Her dissertation was a rhetorical analysis of Franz Kafka´s Briefe an Milena.

Prior to joining the Department of World Languages and Cultures, she was an adjunct professor in the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, where she coached UNLV´s National Student Advertising Competition team. Under her guidance, the UNLV team achieved its first-ever district championship and earned sixth place nationally. In addition, she had a career in corporate communications with Caesars Entertainment, Ameristar Casinos, and eurie creative, where she co-wrote a column for Casino Journal and presented at a number of regional and national gaming conferences. In 2014, Callahan was recognized with an award for Outstanding Teaching by Part-Time Faculty.
