Biography

As an Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Dr. Joshua W. Donnelly teaches introductory and advanced courses in policing, community policing, crime prevention & analysis, violence, and leadership. Driven by a passion for the science of student learning, Dr. Donnelly’s primary mission is to craft intricately designed learning experiences that profoundly influence the intellectual journey of his students.

His research centers on applying crime science to policing and tourism safety, utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial and temporal crime trends and police activity. In his latest study, he examined crime patterns and police enforcement around recreational marijuana facilities, differentiating between tourist corridors and local sites. The core focus of his research is on developing evidence-based police strategies to eliminate criminal opportunity structures and foster positive community-police relationships, with an ultimate goal of enhancing overall quality of life.
