Johnson Ukken, MD, received his bachelor's in neuroscience and English literature from Johns Hopkins University, his master's from Georgetown University, and his medical doctorate from University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. A native Nevadan, he completed his internship and residency, during which he served as chief resident, in family medicine at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV.

His interests include hospital medicine, evidence-based medicine, healthcare & technology, and medical education.
