Biography

Joe Ervin is an associate professor in residence in the Academic Success Center (ASC) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Joe specializes in helping students navigate their way through college and think about their future. His approach to teaching and education is grounded in his love for philosophy. In particular, Joe is interested in the philosophy of the first- and second-year experience, existentialism and education, phenomenology, conceptual assumptions about evidence and research in education, and the philosophy of teaching and learning. Joe has presented at numerous national conferences and is the co-founder of UNLV's Philosophy of Education Society.

As a native Las Vegan, Joe is proud to represent the ASC and UNLV. At UNLV he has been a student, a volunteer, and considers himself fortunate to now have the opportunity to teach. Joe received his B.A. in philosophy, M.Ed. in special education, and Ph.D. in higher education, all from UNLV!
