Biography

Jodie Peterson joined the School of Nursing in 2021, bringing a comprehensive range of clinical experience as a registered nurse (RN) in maternal-child health and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Areas of Expertise

Peterson’s expertise as an RN encompasses labor and delivery, the operating room, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), antepartum, postpartum, newborn nursery, special care nursery, and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). 

Teaching Experience

Peterson has teaching experience in clinical, didactic, and simulation settings across both undergraduate and graduate programs. She has taught skills lab, and clinicals for fundamentals, maternal-child, pediatrics, and geriatrics within the BSN, ABSN, and Direct Entry Master of Science (DEMSN) graduate programs.

Education Background

Peterson is not only an alumna of UNLV; she is a proud two-time graduate, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN-Ed). She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at UNLV, with an expected graduation date of May 2026.

Research or Scholarship

Peterson’s MSN final paper, titled “Simulation for Interprofessional Education in Obstetric Emergencies,” aimed to introduce nursing students to emergency multidisciplinary patient management.

Awards and Recognitions

Peterson made the Dean’s list in 2012 and 2013 and received the Outstanding MSN Student Award in 2021.
