Biography

Hikmet Sidney Loe is an educator, writer, curator, and public speaker whose work examines the changeable nature of the earth and addresses our perceptual and cultural constructs of the land. Her teaching interests focus on modern and contemporary art, the history of photography, Land art and arts of the environment, and the art and material cultures of the Great Basin. Her writing is found online at Southwest Contemporary, 15 Bytes, and Hyperallergic.

Loe's first book, The Spiral Jetty Encyclo: Exploring Robert Smithson's Earthwork through Time and Place (2017, University of Utah Press and Tanner Trust Fund, J. Willard Marriott Library) was awarded the 15 Bytes Annual Book Award in 2018. Forthcoming is the book The Sun Tunnels Encyclo: Exploring Nancy Holt's Earthwork through Perception and Site (2027). Recent curatorial projects were held at Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, UNLV (2023); Granary Arts, Ephraim, Utah (2022); and Southern Utah Museum of Art, SUU (2021).
