Why did you choose the obstetrics and gynecology residency program at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV?
I chose UNLV OB-GYN because I’m originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and frequently visited Las Vegas growing up. I love the desert and knew I wanted to move back after doing my medical school rotations in Michigan. Through researching programs, I learned that UNLV provides the most unique residency experience overall. Specifically, UNLV is a Ryan Program, has arguably one of the most diverse patient populations in the country, maintains a relationship with the military, and provides extensive training in the subspecialties of OB-GYN. Even though I intend to do a fellowship, I wanted a program that I could confidently enter knowing that one day, I would leave having seen everything and feeling confident to handle any situation as an attending. UNLV provides me with all of that along with an incredibly supportive community where I feel comfortable to learn and grow.
What are your interests within obstetrics and gynecology?
I fell in love with maternal-fetal medicine during medical school and hope to do an MFM fellowship after residency! I am very passionate about supporting women through their pregnancies who might not have the picture-perfect scenario, and I find caring for mom and baby (or babies!) while they are one unit an incredible privilege. At the same time, I am interested in helping women advocate for themselves in medicine and gain a deeper understanding of their bodies. OB-GYN is such a special field where the provider can make a lasting impact on the patient experience; I hope to learn from each patient interaction how to be a better provider myself.
What is your favorite thing to do in Las Vegas?
I love persuading people to come visit me! Also, I love trying new places that are seemingly everywhere in Vegas and spending time with my grandparents who retired here (plus seeing my family who comes to town to visit them).
What is one fun fact about you?
I once designed a T-shirt that sold over 155,000 copies.
What is one piece of advice you would give to candidates interested in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program?
Know your worth and get comfortable talking highly about yourself during interviews. Know that once you get the interview, the program is already interested in you, and you’re on an even playing field with everyone else! Most importantly, remember that you are so accomplished to even be at this point of applying for residency. There’s always another step in the medical field, but try your best to appreciate yourself and this time and know that you are AWESOME (and the right program will know it, too).
