Biography
Erin Hamilton is the EY Faculty Fellow within the Lee Business School. She currently serves as an Editor for Accounting Horizons and serves on the Editorial Review Board for Behavioral Research in Accounting. Hamilton has published her research in leading accounting journals, including The Accounting Review; Accounting, Organizations and Society; Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory; and Behavioral Research in Accounting.
Hamilton is widely viewed as an expert in the areas of auditor professional skepticism and fraud detection. Her research uses psychology theory to understand how corporate executives perpetrate fraud and how auditors evaluate questionable transactions and client behaviors to determine whether they appear intentional and suggestive of fraud. Based on her expertise, Hamilton’s research has been profiled on Forbes.com, and she has been invited to design and deliver continuing professional education (CPE) courses to hundreds of professional auditors in the US and Canada.
Hamilton is an award-winning researcher and teacher, receiving both the Lee Business School’s Researcher of the Year Award and Teacher of the Year Award. She teaches financial accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and consistently receives some of the highest teaching evaluation scores in the Department of Accounting and Lee Business School. Hamilton provides extensive service to the Department of Accounting, Lee Business School, UNLV, and the accounting profession. Notably, she helped create an Advisory Board for the Department of Accounting, which now consists of over 30 accounting leaders from the Las Vegas business community. She also is an active member of the American Accounting Association, AICPA, and Nevada Society of CPAs.
Hamilton received her Ph.D. in accounting from the University of South Carolina and her B.B.A. and M.S. in accounting from Kent State University. Prior to entering academia, she worked as an auditor for EY and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the state of Ohio.
