Emiko Kuhs
Graduate Assistant
Emiko Kuhs (MFA 2029) is a textile artist whose work deals with the manifestation of power through energy and gender. Utilizing the traditions of quilting, Emiko makes work that looks at social and environmental issues of the present. His quilts utilize the imagery of power lines to comment on the impacts of privatized power in the US, with a focus on its consequences in the rural south. Additionally, Emiko uses textiles to showcase his experience with being transgender and the physical and social changes that came alongside his transition. Emiko grew up in North Georgia and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textiles from Georgia State University. Pursuing his MFA at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Emiko continues to make work that uses the language of textiles to speak on politics.
