Biography

A classically trained pianist, Cynthia Harris has worked in the Las Vegas Valley for over 35 years in nearly every possible pianistic idiom imaginable, both as an artist as well as educator. Her experiences include all types of collaborative accompanying within the classical realm - including vocal and instrumental, solo as well as ensemble.

It was the genre of Musical Theatre - that of music, song, and dance - that grabbed her in her youth, and planted a deep love of ensemble playing. Involved with well over 30 productions over the years, Cynthia’s expertise spans children’s productions, community theatre, UNLV and CSN productions, as well as Las Vegas shows and Cirque du Soleil. She has worked tirelessly as a rehearsal pianist, a show pianist, and Keyboard/Conductor.

But it has been the dance world - particularly the world of ballet - that continues to beckon to Cynthia. Her ballet class experience began in NYC in 1980 where she was hired not only as class pianist, but also as personal assistant to renowned danseur Edward Villella. During this time she also played class for the famed Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Upon relocation to Las Vegas, Cynthia began an affiliation with Nevada Ballet Theatre, the UNLV Dance Department, and Flamenco legend Luisa Triana. By the time Cirque du Soleil came to town in the early 90s, she was contracted as ballet pianist for Mystere. A few years later Zumanity came along, and then came Celine Dion’s first production, “A New Day” which featured 50 brilliant dancers from around the globe... with Cynthia Harris as ballet class pianist.

In the dawn of the early 2000s Cynthia began to delve into the business world of music, creating a live music consulting and contracting firm, Classical Entertainment Inc. Today Classical Entertainment specializes in producing custom, high quality, small ensemble, live music for corporate events and destination weddings in many of Las Vegas’ Five Star Properties. One such event lasted 3.5 years - the magnificent era when Classical Entertainment’s top tier artists were featured daily in concert in the lush Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, with Cynthia as Music Curator.

Today Cynthia continues to enjoy all facets of her musical/pianistic career, wearing hats as president/owner of Classical Entertainment, keyboard II sub for the Cirque du Soleil production of KA, keyboard/conductor of her 6 pc classic rock fusion band “Bolted Down”, pianist for a myriad of private events all over the Valley, and now... with great pleasure... coming home to UNLV after 30 years... as ballet class pianist for the UNLV Dance Department!
