Biography

Lecturer Christian Haugen joined the department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences as a part-time instructor during spring 2019. In fall 2022, he was hired as a full-time lecturer. His teaching portfolio includes Introduction to Kinesiology, Anatomical Kinesiology, Human Motor Development, Psychology of Exercise and Sport, Honors Sport Psychology, and Independent Study in Kinesiology. Haugen also serves as an advisor for the UNLV Powerlifting Club and is a committee member on the Honors Council. He earned his undergraduate degree in physical education with a minor in coaching from the University of North Dakota. He also received his master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology from his alma mater. He is a member of the American Kinesiology Association and Affiliate Faculty Member with the UNLV Sports Innovation Institute. 

Prior to joining the KNS faculty, Haugen taught physical education and health classes at the high school level in Nevada, North Carolina, and North Dakota. His prior experiences included instruction in personal fitness, strength and conditioning, and team sports. Haugen earned National Board Professional Teacher status from 2010-2020. In addition to teaching, Haugen coached at the high school and collegiate level for 25 years.
