Dr. Chao Wang’s research focuses on the computational design and topology optimization of architected materials and structures with programmable, adaptive, and multifunctional behaviors. Her work integrates computational mechanics, multiphysics modeling, multi-material design, stochastic dynamics, vibration and wave control, and fabrication-aware optimization to develop intelligent engineering systems for resilient infrastructure, soft robotics, and healthcare applications. Her current research follows a design–fabrication–application pipeline, linking computationally designed metamaterials and stimuli-responsive soft materials with advanced manufacturing and experimental validation.
