Calum Rickard is an assistant professor in residence of mathematics in the Honors College. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Southern California. Originally from New Zealand, Rickard earned his BSc(Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Otago, New Zealand. In the Honors College, he teaches Honors Calculus I (HON 181) and Honors Calculus II (HON 182). Rickard serves on the board of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Southern California-Nevada Section. He has also completed the MAA Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) program.

Before joining the faculty at the Honors College, Rickard held faculty positions at the University of Southern California as a Dornsife Teaching Fellow in Mathematics and at the University of California, Davis as an Arthur J. Krener Assistant Professor of Mathematics. In these roles, he taught precalculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and both undergraduate and graduate real analysis. In addition, he has served as a faculty member for the Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) middle school summer enrichment program in Los Angeles.

His research interests in mathematics lie in analysis and nonlinear partial differential equations, more specifically fluid dynamics. The use of AI in mathematical research and the computer-assisted formalization of mathematics using proof assistants interests Rickard. He has also recently been interested in mathematics education research. At USC and UC Davis, Rickard advised undergraduate researchers and would be happy to work with interested UNLV undergraduates.

Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, running, and swimming.
