Biography

Before joining the Boyd School of Law in March 2018, Anthony Cabot practiced gaming law for 37 years and was a former chair of the gaming law practice and executive committee member at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP. While in private practice, Chambers Global as Leading Lawyers for Business, for Gaming Regulation selected Cabot as the highest tier (star) gaming attorney for ten consecutive years. Chambers USA, as Leading Lawyers for Business, for Gaming Regulation recognized only one of four recognized top-tier gaming lawyers from 2004-2017. Best Lawyers in America recognized him for Gaming Law from 2004 to 2017.

Cabot previously served as an adjunct faculty at the Boyd School of Law, UNLV College of Hotel Administration and the University of Houston. In 2018, he was awarded the UNLV Academic Achievement Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Part-Time Faculty.

Cabot is a prolific author on gaming law. Besides numerous journal articles, he is the founding editor of The Internet Gambling Report XI (11th ed. 2009). He has co-authored Sports Wagering in America, Policies, Economics and Regulation (2018), The Law of Gambling and Regulated ‎Gaming: Cases and Materials (2d 2015), Practical Casino Math (2d ed. 2005), Casino Credit and Collections (2003), International Casino Law (3rd ed. January 1999), and Federal Gaming Law (1999). He also co-edited Regulating Land-based Casinos (2d. 2018) and Regulating Internet Gaming: Challenges and Opportunities (2013).

Cabot is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Gambling and Commercial Gaming Research (JGCGR), (2013-present), Co-editor of the Gaming Law Review (1999-2005) and editorial board (1996-2005, 2017-present), a member of the editorial board of the Gaming Research & Review Journal, UNLV International Gaming Institute (1996-present), and a member of the editorial board of the International Gambling Studies, (1999-2004).

Professor Cabot is a founder and past president of the International Masters of Gaming Law, past president of the Nevada Gaming Attorneys Association, and past general counsel to the International Association of Gaming Attorneys.

Professor Cabot is on the Board of Advisors for the International Center for Gaming Regulation, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2015-present), is an appointed member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling for the State of Nevada, Director and Vice President of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling (2009-present), and a member of the Gaming Law Advisory Council, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Boyd College of Law (2009-present).

He is an honorary president and serves on the academic council to the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming, an organization made up of professors from the entire Asian region including Taiwan, Japan, China, Macau, and Australia.
