Andrew L. Maske, Ph.D., is professor of history at UNLV. He received his doctoral degree in Japanese Art History from Oxford University in 1995, focusing on historical ceramics and tea culture in Japan. From 1999 to 2005, he served as curator of Japanese art at the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts. He has spent seven years living in Japan and one year in China as a Fulbright scholar (2006-07), has given over fifty public lectures, and has produced or contributed to dozens of publications on aspects of ceramics history and Asian and Asian American culture. Maske is past president of the Japan Art History Forum and former director of the Gordon L. Grosscup Museum of Anthropology at Wayne State University.

Maske’s research interests include the material culture of Japan from 1550 to the present; Japanese American and Asian American history; and museum studies, collecting, and display culture.
