Biography

Alexis Hansbrough was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she began her dancing journey. Initially a gymnast, Hansbrough shifted her focus to dance after finding that her scoliosis would prevent her from continuing gymnastics. Shortly after beginning her dance training, she was accepted into Las Vegas Academy of the Arts as a dance major. Growing more fond of choreography, she pursued a career in dance and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and Choreography and minor in Pilates. What draws Hansbrough to choreography is putting the movement that she feels in her body on other bodies. Within it is the process of creating movement that is analogous to what she sees and faces every day. The best part of choreography for her is the constant evolution of movement and feeling, similar to the ebb and flow of life.

While dancing at UNLV, Hansbrough was given many opportunities to travel and experience dance from an international lens. She performed her solo “Human” in Germany, competed in the 19th International Dance Competition Hellas in Athens, Greece, and traveled to Japan for her Pilates certification. Hansbrough has found a true passion for Pilates and believes that a mind-body connection is essential to combat mental, physical, and emotional strain. She is currently a part-time instructor at UNLV, where she is teaching Pilates. In the future, she plans on continuing her choreography career in Chicago and pursuing an MFA in Choreography.
