Language Club Representatives Greeting Ms. Hurtado

Sep. 27, 2023

On Sept. 20, UNLV’s Diplomat in Residence, Antoinette Hurtado, talked to 80
students studying Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. They
learned about careers in diplomacy and a wide variety of internships, scholarships
and fellowships offered by the U.S. Department of State. Although students of
any major are welcome to apply, Ms. Hurtado emphasized that language skills are
very valuable assets, as languages help us connect with people and their cultures
worldwide. “A career in diplomacy is truly unique”, said Ms. Hurtado, referencing
her experience in Brazil, Afghanistan, Italy and Ukraine, leaving everyone in the
room amazed. Thank you, Ms. Hurtado, and thank you world language students
for attending!
