If you experience property damage, a vehicle accident, theft or a safety incident on campus, timely reporting protects the university and helps you get support.

The Risk Management, Insurance, and Claims (RMIC) team manages UNLV’s insurance and handles claims related to university property and operations. The team works with the NSHE System Office, the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, UNLV General Counsel and campus partners to guide employees through required documentation and procedures.

Follow the steps below if an incident occurs to support the claims process.

  • Prioritize safety. In an emergency, contact University Police Services or call 911 from a cell or campus phone at 702-895-3669.
  • Report vehicle accidents promptly. If a university vehicle is involved in an accident, notify your supervisor immediately and contact RMIC within 48 hours.
  • Know the 90-day deadline. Claims for theft or damage to UNLV property must be filed within 90 days to remain eligible for reimbursement.
  • Document the damage. Take photos, keep police reports, and gather repair estimates and invoices.
  • Submit an Incident Report. Report injuries and near-misses through the RMIC website to help identify safety hazards.
  • Protect personal property. Personal belongings are not covered by the university. Consider renters or homeowners insurance for items kept in your workspace.

For assistance, contact the RMIC team at 702-895-4226 or rmic-group@unlv.edu.
