Departments planning to utilize funding through the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program for the 2026-27 academic year can begin submitting eligibility review requests. Reviews begin the week of July 13, 2026, and funding is limited, with awards activated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Federal Work-Study program provides funding for part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing students to earn money to help pay for educational expenses.
Departments must submit student information through the 2026-2027 FWS Eligibility Review Form.
The maximum Federal Work-Study award for the 2026-27 academic year is $5,000, split between the fall and spring semesters. Final award amounts are based on each student’s available federal financial need and financial aid eligibility.
After a request is processed, departments will receive an email with each student’s eligibility status. Students must be fully hired in Workday before their award can be activated. Delays in completing the hiring process may prevent a student’s award from being activated for the 2026-27 academic year.
Federal Work-Study awards become effective Aug. 16, 2026, for the fall semester and Jan. 1, 2027, for the spring semester. Once awards are activated, the Work Study Unit will add the Federal Work-Study components to students’ Workday profiles on behalf of departments.
