Human Resources if offering virtual training sessions to help department representatives comply with the university’s new background screen policies. Visit the Human Resources Training Calendar to find available training opportunities. Registration is not required.

A self-paced, on-demand training course on initiating background screenings is also available.

UNLV is committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for our campus community. To advance that commitment, the university will implement mandatory background screenings as part of the hiring process, effective Sept. 1.

These screenings serve as a proactive measure to protect the university’s people, operations, and reputation while supporting informed hiring decisions. Visit the University Policies webpage to read the full policies for faculty and classified staff as well as the Required Disclosure of Felony Charges.

The requirements apply to all new employees and current employees transitioning to a new position within the university. Screening procedures vary by employee type. Additional details are available on the Background Screening webpage.

If you have questions about the background screening policies or processes, please contact the appropriate office below:

  • Academic and administrative faculty, classified staff, and post-doctoral scholars
  • Part-time instructors
  • Individuals in other employment classifications, (e.g., letter of appointment, graduate assistants, temporary hourly, student workers) may also be subject to background screening requirements due to specific regulatory requirements for their position. Those individuals should also contact Temporary Employment & HCM Support for guidance.
