The Division of Research is pleased to announce the release of the UNLV Export Control Manual, a new resource designed to help members of the university community understand and navigate federal export control, economic sanctions, and research security requirements.
As UNLV’s research enterprise and international collaborations continue to grow, faculty, staff, students, visiting scholars, and affiliates may encounter compliance considerations in a variety of activities, including international research collaborations and travel; working with foreign national researchers; shipping items internationally; using controlled technology or equipment; handling certain biological materials or software; conducting sponsored research; making purchases; and participating in international financial transactions.
The Export Control Manual provides practical guidance and institutional procedures to help the UNLV community:
- Understand when export control or research security requirements may apply.
- Recognize activities that may require additional review or guidance.
- Support responsible, secure, and compliant international research and collaboration.
Faculty, staff, students, visiting scholars, and affiliates are encouraged to review the UNLV Export Control Manual and become familiar with the guidance applicable to their activities.
Export control and research security requirements can be complex, but not every international activity or collaboration is restricted. The manual is intended to help members of the UNLV community recognize situations in which additional guidance or review may be appropriate and identify the resources available to assist them.
For questions about the UNLV Export Control Manual or whether export control or research security requirements apply to a particular activity, contact Chelsea Holmes, Export Control Officer, at chelsea.holmes@unlv.edu.
