Standard Operating Procedures

Clear, detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are essential for safe, consistent lab work. SOPs outline step-by-step instructions for handling chemicals, equipment, and processes to minimize risks and ensure compliance. All personnel must be trained on lab specific SOPs before beginning any work, and SOPs should be reviewed and updated regularly, especially after changes to procedures or equipment. Documenting and following SOPs protects both researchers and the institution, reducing accidents and ensuring regulatory requirements are met.

Need help developing or revising SOPs? Not sure if an SOP is required? Refer to the Standard Operating Procedures Guide or contact Julie Bertoia (julie.bertoia@unlv.edu, 702-895-2613) for assistance.
