The UNLV Chemistry Department has introduced a new course, CHEM 240 - Preparation for Organic Chemistry (2 credits). CHEM 240 (see attached flyer) will be offered starting Summer 2023.

CHEM 240 is a bridge course between CHEM 121/122 - General Chemistry I/II and CHEM 241 - Organic Chemistry I. CHEM 240 discusses foundational concepts in the context of organic chemistry, and also focuses on mechanism drawing, one of the most important operations in organic chemistry.

CHEM 240 is not currently required to progress into CHEM 241 this Summer 2023 or Fall 2023, but is highly recommended for students seeking a strong foundation and success in Organic Chemistry.

Please note that beginning Spring 2024, students that do not earn a B- or higher in CHEM 121A will be required to take CHEM 240 (or retake CHEM 121A and earn a B- or higher) before progressing into CHEM 241.
