Viet Cuong has been named one of two recipients of this year’s Goddard Lieberson Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters!

Two fellowships of $15,000 are awarded annually to composers of “extraordinary gifts.”

"This honor feels especially meaningful at this stage in my life," said Quong on Instagram this week, "The Academy has long supported some of the most influential voices in American music, and to be included in this lineage of artists, friends, and mentors—including Andy Akiho, Juri Seo, Steven Stucky, Chen Yi, Michael Daugherty, Frank Ticheli, and Steven Mackey, to name a few—is profoundly encouraging. The further I’ve moved into carving out my artistic voice—writing the music I most want to write, wherever it finds a home—the more I’ve realized how important it is to stay rooted in authenticity. This award feels like an affirmation that there isn’t just one way to build a life in our field. Thank you to everyone who believes in and supports what I’m creating!"
