Saturday STEM is officially underway! On Oct. 3, nearly 60 K-8 students joined the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Education (CMSEE) on the UNLV campus for the first day of our fall program.

Students spent the morning in one of three hands-on courses taught by CMSEE STEM Instructors:

  • Integrating Engineering, Robotics & AI for STEM Learning (grades 4–5): Students started learning about AI and basic coding design before working with the robotics kits.
  • The Curious Chem Lab (grades 6–8): Students looked into the chemistry behind everyday life.
  • Fire Science, Coding, and Engineering Activities (grades 6–8): Students explored fire science and put engineering concepts to work.

Between experiments, students also met classmates who share their curiosity. Plenty of new friendships started the first day of the program.

Saturday STEM continues Oct. 10, 17, 24, and 31. Thank you to the families who trusted us with their Saturday mornings, and to the community partners and schools who helped spread the word.

Teach with us: CMSEE is always looking for STEM Instructors. If you’re a UNLV student who would like to share your love of STEM with K-8 learners, learn how to design and teach your own course through the CMSEE STEM Incubator, or email cmseestem@unlv.edu to learn more about teaching for Saturday STEM.
